Fun In The Middle East

Middle East politics is going to be fun for a while...

Hamas just called on Isreal to change its flag and remove the two blue stripes on the edges. They say that it signifies the Isreali empire stretching from the Nile to the Euphrates.

{insert sound of forehead smacking table repeatedly}

Yeah. It is ironic that this charge is made, when the flag precedes any wars at all. At least they did not call for them to remove the Star of David.

It is just Hamas trying to distract its people from the fact that their extreme policies toward Israel may be bankrupting the Palestinian people. The people voted for Hamas for internal reasons (i.e. Fatah was FAR too corrupt, and could not deliver basic services) but the international community has to focus on the external impact. If Hamas is wise, they'll just shut up for a while, and focus on governing locally. If they can gain the trust of their people and the respect of other nations for taking care of their own, then they will be in a position to talk about international issues.
