As some of you who have been reading this blog for a while know, I got a chance to see the newly released film "End of the Spear" about 3 months before it's release. I wrote a blog post on it.
I have been getting the promotional emails from them for the past few months. They told of pre screenings, and since the release of the film have been stories of how the film has touched peoples lives.
The latest one was about how it was screened for about 79 UN dignitaries. I have to admit, I was surprised, but apparently some people at the Christian Embassy (a missions org dedicated to reaching those in the UN) brought the film to a theater near the UN, and invited the ambassadors.
The interesting thing is, it is now being screened INSIDE the UN in a few days, and they have invited 191 dignitaries.
So, God is using this film in powerful ways. The response to the film from the dignitaries who saw it was very positive.
My view on this film has changed since I wrote my review a few months ago. I said at the time that it was very good... I would retract that, and instead say that it is flawed, but still retains the power of the story if you are somewhat familiar with it.
The script, which I did point out in my original review, is weak. It seems to jump around too much, and it doesn't develop the caucasian characters very well. This makes the acting come across worse than it should. It also isn't helped by some silly dialogue. The acting and characterization of the natives is much better, and it is especially impressive to note that many of the natives are played by people who are from the Embra tribe and had never seen a movie.
The direction is okay. Not great, it basically serves its purpose. The film does look good (although I think some screenings have been in DLP, which doesn't look nearly as good). The jungle is real, and you can tell (as opposed to the fakeness of King Kong).
So I think this film had great potential, and I think that it still has a powerful story (especially if you already know the story, as I did) but I think it could have been much better.
But, it got made, and made it into the top 10 box office wise. So God is using it. But I think we can do better, and I look forward to what is to come!
Oh, also, I just heard about the film "Hoodwinked" and it seems to be a great film, family friendly, funny, and very creative. Check out the link on the right!
