It hasn't been all that well publicized yet, however it is being opened in 1200 theaters on January 20th by 20th Century Fox, so... I am sure it will be.
To sum up the film, it was very good. It is the story of Nate Saint and the other 4 missionaries that were speared 50 years ago in Ecuador by a fierce tribe of natives, and more importantly, it is about the reconcilliation that came between Steve Saint (the son) and the man who speared his father.
The film is not a typical Christian movie. It has very nice cinematography, and the acting is quite good for the most part. The writing is good, and the whole thing is well put together. There are some problems I saw, some with writing, or alittle of the acting, but on the whole it is very well done. What makes it especially different from a typical Christian movie is that it is violent (we are talking about brutal spearings) and doesn't mention Jesus once. There is a definite message, but it basically tells the story, and lets the audience be intelligent.
The story is powerful, which is probably why it works. I was in tears at points, and the whole audience was tracking with the movie emotionally.
It is also produced by Bill Ewing, who was the Senior VP of production at Columbia Pictures and was the involved in Spiderman, Men in Black, The Patriot and 100 other films there. The force behind the film and the company is Mart Green, who is an executive with Hobby Lobby stores, and the head of Mardel book stores. He had a vision to produce this and other films, and by God's grace has done it. He has a great story of how it came about too. Check out thier mission here. Truth beyond imagination... good tag line:)
Anyway, check out the link above and watch the trailer. Check out the site for Every Tribe and the movie. They are doing a promotion in October to get 20,000 churches to show the documentary "Beyond the Gates of Splendor" that they did in research for this movie. Check it all out!
