Anyway, this week is the 5th Anniversary of the Iraq Invasion. Slate has been running a series of articles on the war, and what certain columnists thought then, and think now.
Two of the articles are quite good, and really seem to sum up my thoughts.
The first is by Jeffrey Goldberg, a columnist for The Atlantic, the second is by Andrew Sullivan, also a columnist for The Atlantic.
I was in favor of Bush and the invasion, but more and more I agree with Os Guinness... the idea that we could begin a western/american style democracy among a people group who have no Judeo/Christian basis of freedom of religion was a pipe dream.
Now we are stuck. We can't leave, the region will end up in chaos and war. We began this process, we must finish it or we are letting the people down and contributing to genocide. But I am not sure that the people of this country are ready for the long haul that this will be (McCain's prediction of being there for 100 years may be right...).
Ultimately I know that God is in control, his purposes are being fulfilled through this. But sometimes it is a good idea to learn from history and past mistakes, and strive to make decisions that will not repeat them.

History has validated all protests, beginning with those before the invasion: George W. Bush has put a bigger hurt on America than Osama bin Laden.
I totally disagree, especially with the second half of your comment. OBL is a terrorist, who lives to cause death and carnage on those who disagree with his ideology, and I wouldn't defend him at all. GWB is the leader of a country, and no matter how misguided you feel he is or was, he was not intentionally trying to kill and destroy.
History has done nothing to validate the protests, which were protesting the idea that war is ever a good idea. In this case it was premature, but something did need to be done. In many other cases, war was a necessity to stop worse things from happening.
But much of that is moot. We have to do something NOW, we started something, we have to finish it. We owe the people of Iraq that much.
GWB is the greatest state-sponsored terrorist of the 21st Century.
Wow ... uh, talk about boiling it all down to soundbite platitudes. It's a little more complicated than that, vigilante. Your statement lacks a whole bunch of knowledge about both defending a country and running a middle-East Arabic terror organization, to say the least.
