DaVinci Box Office Thoughts

Someone wanted to know my thoughts on the "success" of the DaVinci Code this past weekend.

On the face of it, it made alot of money. And there is no denying that fact. I DO think that X-3 and Superman Returns will severly cut into the profits. Superman is building off of the movies from years ago, and the comic has alot of fans. Plus it has a very strong director (Bryan Singer, of the other X-Men movies).

X-3 has a huge fan base, especially after the last one. Alot of fans will go this weekend.

So I think personally that DaVinci will be in the top couple, but not on top anymore.

I also find it very interesting that the daily box office tally for DaVinci started on Friday at 29million, and dropped to 27million on Saturday, and then dropped to 20million on Sunday.

Usually movies do well on Friday, the best on Saturday, and then drop some on Sunday. All the other movies that were out (not just opening) this weekend did that. DaVinci lost people as time went on.

So... my prediction is that the trend continues that way. This has happened before, Matrix:Revolutions had a big opening weekend, and then did dismal business after that.

But we shall see. I don't really care all that much. I think the movie is a bit of an attack on Christianity, but it seems that everyone is basically seeing it as a bunch of crock and either enjoying the story, or, more often, hating that part of it too. The Rotten Tomatoes score is dismal, and usually that means that the movie will not do repeat business.

So there you have it, Mr. Anonymous:)

Not bad. It has a beat, but I can't dance to it.

What conclusions do you think Hollywood will draw from all of this? If any.

I think we're going to go see it next week. I can't believe we're thinking about financially supporting that movie but our pastor wants to go with us and talk about it afterwards.
