Well... it was only a matter of time.
I have to say, when I read the headline, I thought... oh man, I just bought a new phone on my network (Sprint) and now I find out I COULD have gotten an iPhone!
However, the only network the unlocked phones will work on is TMobile...
So the point of unlocking it is...?

Ahem. It will work on ANY network that uses GSM/GPRS/EDGE technology. Sprint and Verizon use CDMA. AT&T, T-Mobile, Alltel, most of the minor companies, and ALL OF EUROPE use GSM/GPRS/EDGE.
So, there is a lot of point (although I do not think it is as big a deal as the newsfolks do) as it allows folks outside the USA to use the iPhone, and iPhoners who are not Verizon or Sprint to use it.
