Different Twist on the British Hostage Situation

It is being reported today that the female seaman who was captured by Iran, when released caused the Iranian PM alot of embarassment.

He asked how her little girl was, and she said something like "I don't know, I haven't seen her for 13 days remember?" and he then said, "well, didn't you get to call her?" and she said no.

This article, from the Washington Post, puts a bit of a different, and I think much more correct, spin on the situation.

When a pretender to sanity such as Ahmadinejad gets to lecture the West about how it treats its women, we've effectively handed him a free pass to the end zone and made the world his cheerleaders.

Not only does the Iranian president get to look magnanimous in releasing the hostages, but he gets to look wise. And we in the West get to look humiliated, foolish and weak.

Just because we may not "feel" humiliated doesn't mean we're not. In the eyes of Iran and other Muslim nations, we're wimps. While the West puts mothers in boats with rough men, Muslim men "rescue" women and drape them in floral hijabs.

We shall see. I think Iran was feeling out the West, and has found us weak and unwilling to fight back. We shall see what happens...
