Well, a few things I have been thinking about to get posted! 2 items now, maybe another later:)
First off... Happy Feet beat out Casino Royale for the top box office spot this weekend. Just another example of how making a low rated, family film that is actually good (Rotten Tomatoes has Happy Feet with an 80% rating) will beat out a higher rated film (which is just as good, Rotten Tomatoes has it with a 95% rating) simply because it appeals to a wider audience. If your movie is good and appeals to couples with kids, you will get 4 tickets sold, as opposed to 2 for a film they can't take the kids to. What is also impressive is that Happy Feet probably did this with lower ticket prices, since most people with kids will go during the day.
Second thing, is this announcement. It appears that "The Hobbit" will not be made by Peter Jackson or the whole LOTR team.
Which is sad. I don't think it is as big a deal as some think. I think Narnia proved that others could take the techniques of LOTR and do as good a job with similar material. But, I think Peter, Fran and Phillipa and the script they put together, the story they made, will be hard to find.
We shall see!
