I thought this story was a bit disheartening.
Not because NBC is cutting jobs. I really could care less. I'm sure it is about time. What they really need to do is cut the enormous salaries of some of these people. But I digress.
No, what was disheartening was the part about how they are cutting scripted shows.
I HATE reality TV. I find it vapid and dull, boring, stupid and pointless. I watch TV to escape reality for a bit, or to find out information or gain knowledge. I like documentaries. I like "real life" stories, like "The Path To 9/11" or a biographic film about a person. I like series like "24" or sitcoms. They are stories. They have a point, a message or something, humor, characters that are interesting or funny or whatever.
I guess some reality programming does as well, but... I don't know. I have never liked them. The stories are strange. Often the people are agravating. I don't even like watching "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" which I think is a great idea and show (helping real people). I just don't really care to watch it.
I also think that reality programming is on its way out. The shows are getting the same response now, there are just to many, and frankly, they are all really similar.
I think NBC might be making a mistake in that regard. We shall see.
