Being a Christian, and being in the media/entertainment industry, this article caught my eye.
I only know what I found out in the article, so I'll let you read that. Couple thoughts. First off, they state that Christians went to see "The DaVinci Code" which is probably true, and I find disturbing. The movie was an attack of sorts on Christianity, so why were Christians going in such huge numbers?
Second, I think this is a good idea on Fox part. I hope they can up the production values of "Christian" films. Better writing, better acting, better production would help alot, and you don't have to have a big budget for that.
Third, this type of thing would be a great thing for films in general. Small budgets with niche marketing allow for a more edgy, creative film. You can give a director more control if you are only spending $5 million than if you are spending $60 million. If this takes off, it may signal and change in the direction Hollywood goes in general.
Fourth, this isn't my vision. I want to produce films for a broader, more non-Christian audience, but films that have a message that comes out of my Christian faith. Something like what C.S. Lewis or J.R.R. Tolkien did with their books. I don't just want to feed Christians more content, I want to change the culture.
So, I am encouraged by this, and I hope that FoxFaith lives up to it's promise of Christian films with great production values.
Stay tuned...
