Briefly... the highest court in NY state (which is called the State Court of Appeals... the Supreme Court is the lowest level, go figure) said that the question of gay marriage is not to be decided by the courts but by the legislature.
We hold that the New York Constitution does not compel recognition of marriages between members of the same sex... whether such marriages should be recognized is a question to be addressed by the Legislature.
So there you go! Good news...
