I'm Back!

I apologize for the lack of posts in recent days. What with being in San Antonio and then all the things I had to catch up on... just not alot of time. I also came down with some flu bug, which wasn't fun. I had it basically the day we left... travelling on a plane with the flu is an experience I hope I never have again. And I didn't even have the kind that affects the stomach. I was just basically light headed, my back was killing me (which was aggravated by the fact that the seats on the jet had no lumbar support), I had a fever, and I was just basically sick and tired.

On top of that, we landed a half hour early, only to be stuck on the plane for another hour because our gate was occupied, and there was a sick passenger on that plane that had to be taken off! Oy vey.

Anyway, I seem to be back up and running now:)

A few things... first off, I LOVE Samuel Alito for the SCOTUS! He seems to be another great strict constructionist judge.

Also, the film festival was great. Not so much because I got to see alot of great films, I only saw a few (some of which weren't that great). But more because I got to meet some people who may throw work my way, and generally see a new vision being cast for some of the "wanna be" (and I use that term with affection) filmmakers who were there. The realization is coming that these people have talent, but it needs to be molded, focused, and trained. And the only way, really, to do that is to fine tune whatever skills you have by using them in the real world, where people won't let something pass because it has a "good message" or it was a "family effort" or something.

And that will happen, I hope. But it is neat to see Christians with a vision to impact the culture they live in by utilizing the media.

I don't agree with everything the festival is trying to do. I also tend to have a more critical eye than the people in charge (there was a showing of a film that the founder produced, and it was billed as the best Christian film out there, but it wasn't. It was too preachy, and somewhat obtuse. Well produced, but not really that great.) But I do appreciate the vision and the fact that they are acting on it.

It was also a great time for my dad in so many ways, which was extremely encouraging:) And that is all I will say right now.

By the by, the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival was listed on Variety's "Top Film Festivals" listing! The reason is that it gives out a $10,000 prize, which puts it above most, and right under Sundance ($20,000) and another that has a $50,000 prize. Pretty neat!

Alright... back to the real world! I promise I will update more often!
