So... I am sure you have all heard the uproar at CBS News over the Bush Documents thing. They fired 4 people. Mary Mapes, the producer of the piece, Mary Murphy, who was the Senior Producer of the show, Josh Howard, who was the Executive Producer of the show, and Betsy West, the Senior Vice President (Prime Time) of CBS News.
Now, I only am bringing this up because I used to work there... I actually worked for Betsy a few times. She was nice, did alot of her work herself and wasn't real demanding. Won 17 Emmy's (they were in a line on top of her bookeshelf). I am not really surprised that she was fired over this, she was pretty tough and I think wanted the story so bad she made mistakes.
Josh Howard I knew fairly well (for a boss). He was the Senior Story Editor at 60 Minutes when I worked there. Nice guy, very good sense of what made a story good and how best to put one together. I am kind of surprised that he let this thing through... I think he may be taking the fall for some others.
I didn't know the other two, but it follows that they should be held responsible.
I think this will ultimately lead to Andrew Heyward's resignation. Everything he does will be under scrutiny, and Betsy isn't going to let him off the hook. If she has ANYTHING on him, she will do what she needs to do to bring him down. They are all VERY cut throat around there.
So there you have it. My comments. My old boss at CBS was calling me to see if I could work, because now they have extra spaces and things... there's a witch hunt going on down at CBS News...

You leave and all of these news scandals. I think you can either claim responsability for being the lead guy in charge of covering scandals or claim to be the glue that kept the newsroom going.
