Please consider the following observations:
1. The voters in 11 states amended their constitutions to effectively
ban gay marriage. Included in those was the liberal
leaning and heavily gay lobbied State of Oregon.
2. Several key liberal Democrats, credited with blocking Bush's
conservative agenda, were voted out of office. Overall, Republicans
gained seats in Congress.
3. Record numbers voted in this election nationwide.
4. President Bush was not re-elected because of the war in Iraq, he
was re-elected IN SPITE OF the war in Iraq. President Bush was not
re-elected because there was an absence of WMDs in Iraq, he was
re-elected IN SPITE OF the absence of WMDs in Iraq. President Bush was
not re-elected because of the a perceived poor economy and jobless
rate, he was re-elected IN SPITE OF a perceived poor economy and
jobless rate. I think you get where I am going with this.
The point I wish to make is this:
There is a verifiable majority of like-minded people basing their
decisions on underlying values, who believe that in this imperfect
world the only real answers lie in the rejuvenation of the moral,
ethical and religious values on which this country was founded and
which our Constitution depends on. The popular majority's positive
approach and faith orientated mindset far outweighs the mass media's
constant barrage of negativism and cries of world collapse.
I did not vote for war. I did not vote for the draft. I did not vote
for a lousy economy. But most of all, I did not vote out of FEAR. I
did vote for the values I have grown to hold so dear and my faith in
God.
- John Roberts
So there you have it. The essence of why Bush won this thing.

"I did not vote for the draft?" Last I checked, we still don't have a draft.

Or maybe, because Bush had a positive campaign. He ran on issues, on ideas, and actually introduced new policies and new ways of doing things. Not just tax cuts, but a complete redesign of the Tax Code.
And then there was John "I Am Not Bush, But I'd Do Everything ALMOST the Same Way" Kerry.
